Today’s engine choices could shape shipping’s fuel mix through 2050

Engine decisions made by shipowners over the next decade could lock in much of the fleet’s fuel-consuming capacity through 2050, but whether those vessels actually use alternative fuels will ultimately depend on economics and regulation, according to a new analysis by the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
