IGU Global Gas Report 2026: Energy security cannot be taken for granted
Natural gas and LNG entered 2026 on a strong footing, with global gas demand reaching a record 4,202 bcm in 2025, up 69 bcm, or 1.7%, from the previous year, according to the Global Gas Report 2026, published by the International Gas Union (IGU) in collaboration with Snam and Rystad Energy.
The global gas system is also becoming more diversified, flexible and resilient to disruption. However, the report cautions that maintaining that resilience will be increasingly challenging as the energy system evolves, demand patterns shift and the pressures on global energy infrastructure intensify.
