ICCT: Climate and revenue considerations for the IMO Net-Zero Framework

Recent analysis by the ICCT highlights how the IMO’s Net-Zero Framework addresses biofuel use and funding mechanisms to drive decarbonization in shipping.

Last April, the IMO approved the Net-Zero Framework to achieve its goal of net-zero emissions by or around 2050. While the vote to formally adopt the framework was delayed for at least a year, a research brief by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) has focused on two key elements of the framework: the use of biofuels for compliance and the funding for shipping-related climate mitigation.
