Maersk completes first U.S. ethanol bunkering of deep-sea container vessel
A.P. Moller – Maersk has completed the first ship-to-ship commercial ethanol bunkering of a deep-sea container vessel in the United States, as it continues to assess alternative fuel pathways for shipping.
The operation involved Tangier Maersk, a dual-fuel alcohol-enabled container vessel, which was bunkered with 100% U.S.-produced corn ethanol. According to Maersk, the operation provided practical experience on the operational, infrastructure, sourcing and supply chain requirements associated with using ethanol as a marine fuel.
